After grabbing some corns we ran back home as fast as we could, not wanting to be caught. After he fell, two young men rushed over, called a cab and sent him to hospital. It turned out that my grandpa suffered a stroke. But you must admit that time has the power to change it. People can

be a lot different once you get to know them well. I didn’t like my current girlfriend when we first met. And I’d like it if I can build something that would last much longe r even after I am gone, and seeing people benefit from my design will definitely give me great satisfaction. So going to engineering school really is a brand new start of my life. That’s why it’s so important to me.

54. If you unexpectedly receive a large amount of money, what will you do with it? Would you spend it for practical purposes or simply for fun? I’m definitely gonna spent it for practical purposes. If I unexpectedly receive a large amount of money, the first thing I would do is to make investments so that I can keep a steady income. And the money would make financial issues never a problem for higher education. I can go to nice universities even without scholarships. I will travel more, meet successful person, and I’ll know how to spend the money more wisely. Spending money for fun is nice, but the fun won’t last. After all the money was gone, I’ll be back to where I started.

55. What do you think the students should do in their vacations? Please include specific examples and details in your statement. I believe they should take a job to enrich their experiences.

I took an internship one summer and my major job was to work with some Nigerian students. My English was poor at that time, and you know Nigerian English is hard to understand. In the first two weeks I can hardly understand what they are talking about let alone working with them. So I walked with them every day after work, asking about their culture, and introducing China to them. And I was grateful that they are really nice people, they helped me a lot. At the end of the summer, we’ve become good friends and kept contact ever since.

56. Describe an enjoyable event in your child hood. Why do you think it was enjoyable? When Iwas young, I lived in a suburban area. And there was a corn field right beside our community. One day me and some other kids decided to do something exciting, so we sneaked into the field. They made me stand watch for I was the slow one. After grabbing some corns we ran back home as fast as we could, not wanting to be caught. And then we found some bricks to build up a little stove, collected lots of dry leaves to make fire, and roasted the corns on fire. I have to say that that roast corn was the best that I’ve ever had.

57. When communicating with your friends and families, you can rely on letters, email or telephone calls. Which method of communicating do you think is better and why? Definitely by phone calls. First of all, letter and emails takes too much of time. You have to organize your thoughts and write them down, and it’s likely that you will miss something while writing, and it would be days before people can get your letter. Plus, writing a letter is like telling your feelings to a piece of paper, it doesn’t feel real. But using phone calls is totally different, the distance doesn’t seem to matter anymore when you hear the voice of your loved ones. And you can do it any time you

want, it’s much more convenient.

58. What is your best time in a year? Please state your reasons and include specific examples and details in your explanation. That would be the moment when I got the result of my college entrance test. We were under huge pressure that day. Finally the phone finally rang and it turned out that I actually did a good job. when my mind was still all blank, my dad said something that brought me back to reality:” Son, I’m so proud of you.” Suddenly I realized that all my hard work had paid off, I didn’t let myself and anyone who loves me down, that’s the moment I knew it is a brand new start of my life, and that I’ll always cherish.

59. One should live a relaxed life instead of always hurrying. Do you agree or disagree with the above statement. I’m afraid that I disagree. It’s not like that I don’t like a relaxing life style, it’s just that there are so many goals to fulfill in my life. There are tons of books I plan to read, I want to buy a fancy RV for my parents, I want to travel around the world, to learn several new languages, but none of them will happen unless financial issues are no longer a problem for me. So I have to study and work hard to earn enough money for those things. I just can’t afford a relaxing life.

60. Describe your favorite room. Your statement should include specific examples and details. The room Ilived in when I travel to Australia would be my favorite. The house was on the edge of a woods, the balcony of the room I lived in was right facing the woods. I loved to sit in a cane chair in the balcony, light a lamp and read a book at night. Moonlight slanted through the branches down the floor, all birds stopped tweeting and the only sound you can hear is occasional chirping from some crickets. And there was a faint fragrance from flowers I couldn’t name, but it

reminded me of the sweetest peaches in summer.

61. When travelling, some people prefer to reach the destination directly. Some others prefer to stop and look around the scenery along the way. What kind of way of travelling do you think is better and why? Ilove to stop and look around when travelling. What I love about travelling is not some certain place I previously planned to visit, it is the travelling itself, and the surprises it gives me that I truly enjoy. Before setting off, the only things you know about your destination are from other people’s experiences, they may not suit you very well. All places are different from time to time, let alone the fact that people have different preference. I always love to meet local people or other tourists, ask them for advice and adjust my route. Sometimes I even don’t get to the place where I planned to visit.

62. When you choose to eat at the restaurant or café, what are the features that you care about most. Explain why. When choosing a restaurant, the thing I consider the most important is its hygiene condition. First of all the restaurant should be clean, so that you can have your dinner in a good mood. And more importantly the food have to be safe because you don’t want to get sick after dinner. And of course, the taste of food is very important too. Now there are excellent website where you can look up the restaurants and see other people’s comment on them, they may even recommend some good food that you should try. Those are two features I care about most.

63. Some believe that a city should keep its old buildings. Others think some new buildings are needed to replace the old buildings. What’s your opinion? Explain why. I agree that some new buildings are needed to replace the old ones. In many ways people can benefit from the replacement. We know that most of the

cities are expanding, and now we find many old residential areas in the center of the cities. But if you replace these buildings with the ones of commercial use, apparently it will greatly help the development of local economy. For the old residents, moving to suburban areas means enjoying more fresh air and less congestion. As for buildings with history, there are lots of ways to commemorate those histories including books, movies or photos. Keeping the old buildings may not be the best way.

64. In case of problems, some prefer to get advice from family and friends. Others prefer to learn through personal experience. Which method is better and why? I think seeking advice from friends and family are better. We meet with all kinds of problems every day, but we only have very limited time and energy. So why do you have to do everything by yourself while you can ask for advice? You can still learn from the problem and the result may turn out better, two minds work better than one after all. And also, opening up to you friends and family is better for you relationships, people know that you trust them, and that certainly brings you closer.

65. Do you agree or disagree: Students should wear uniforms in school? Please include specific details and examples in your opinion. I agree thatstudents should be wearing uniforms in school. For one thing, it is fact that some of the students like to compare with others about their clothes. They want to wear better clothes to show that their family is richer. But they are still financially independent now, this kind of comparison is definitely not a healthy behavior. But requiring students to wear uniform will easily solve this problem. And also, everyone can afford school uniforms, they represents the culture of the school. Many of my friends like to wear them outside the campus to show that they are proud of where they come from.

66. Some students prefer the internet-based teaching. Others prefer to study in traditional classroom. Which method of studying do you prefer and why? I prefer studying in traditional classroom. We know that for many situations, studying is about cooperation and communication, which can be seriously affected if you are studying alone at home. And when you have problems, it’s obviously more efficient to discuss with other people, they may provide another respect of thinking. Studies also show that people are likely to lose focus when working alone. And besides, studying in classroom can help make friends, which can make you love more about your work. People are social animals, spending too much time alone is not healthy for our minds.

67. Subject which will lead to better job or subject which you are interested? I believe that Iwill follow my interest. I’m not saying that studying a subject for job opportunities is wrong, it’s just that I’m not that kind of person. Me myself want to be a scientist in the future, and following my own interests are rather important, because doing research can be tedious or frustrating in many situations, and my interests may be the only thing to keep me going on and on. If you are only driven by profit, it’s likely that you will abandon your current subject once it seems not so profitable, and that’s clearly not good for the development of science.

68. Some think the college education is very important. Others believe that college education is not of vital importance in one’s life. What’s your opinion. I believe that college education is not necessary for any one. For one thing, not every job requires a high education degree. Take salesmen for example, what you need to learn and practice can hardly be found from textbooks, each industry in each market is different, you can’t expect to find a pattern perfect for your situation. What you really need is working experience. And more importantly, higher education is for people that are passionate about

science, that choose researcher or engineers for career. It’s just not necessary for people who want different things, and they may end up wasting time.

69. Describe a letter or poem or other piece of art that is important to you. On my journey to Paris, Igot the chance to see one of the finest work of DaVinci’s, Mona Lisa, which I love very much. Mona Lisa’s reputation rests on the mysterious half smile. We know that many paintings are to capture the motion, so when we are watching the lady, we can see a full smile blooming in front of our eyes. But sometimes we can get very confused too. We don’t know if her face is beaming in the next moment or will it lose all traces of smile. It certainly builds a complicated connection between us and Mona Lisa.

70. Describe an experience when you asked help from others. How did they help you? I was doing this internship one summer, and my major job was to work with some Nigerian students. You know that Nigerian English is not easy to understand especially when my English was not exactly very good. I could hardly understand a single thing in the first two weeks, let alone working with them. So I asked them for help, and they were been really supportive. I walked with them every day after work, talking about different cultures and the ongoing World Cup. I was so grateful for their kind help. At the end of the summer, we’ve become good friends and kept contact ever since.

71. Which place do you like to live, the forest, desert or plain? Use specific reason to explain your opinion. I’ll definitely chose to live in a forest. Years ago on my journey to Australia, I lived in a house right on the edge of a forest. At night when the heat starts to go away, I loved to light a lamp, sit in a cane chair in the balcony and read a book. It was so peaceful at that time that the cool breeze is the only thing to remind you that time is still running.

I love it when moonlight slanted through be branches down the floor, all birds stopped tweeting and the only sound you can hear is occasional chirping from some crickets. Everything was so perfect.

72. If you have a chance to choose your job, would you like to choose a job with high salary or that can get personal satisfaction? Why? I think Iwould choose the job with better salary. Because I have so many goals to fulfill in my life, like travelling around the world, learning several new languages or buying a fancy RV for my parents, but most of them would not happen if financial issues are still a problem for me. To achieve those goals, I need a higher salary. And also, when I earn enough money, I can always choose to go back to job I love, and I would have better source then, that would be a good start.

73. Some believe that the students should do some part-time job or summer interns to determine their future career. Do you agree or disagree with the opinion an why? I totally agree. In the internship one summer, my major job was to work with some Nigerian students. That experience has greatly enriched my experience, enhanced my English skills and more importantly my confidence in communicating with people. And when you’re working for a company, the company is also learning about you. They can see your abilities and potentials during your internship. It’s certainly a good head start. And if they like your performance, you are more likely to get the chance to eventually work in the company. That’s especially important when jobs are harder and harder to find now.

74. Describe some kind of skill thatyou’d like to learn most. Why? I’d really love to learn how to cook. First of all, when cooking by yourself, you know what you are putting into your dishes,

it’s apparently much healthier. And you can also control the ingredients of your meal, less fat and salt, more protein and fiber is always good for keep fit. And also, cooking can be a lot of fun, while cooking with you family can double the fun. Once you know about the basics of cooking, it opens a door to a whole new world, it brings out all of your creativity.

75. Some believe that the students should take a one-year break before attending college. Do you agree or disagree with the opinion and why? I’m afraid that I disagree. I can understand why college students want to take a one year break after graduation, but I believe that it’s totally unnecessary for high school students to do so. Because before actually entering the society, college students may need to figure out what they really want to do in their lives. But most of high school graduates know few things, what they really need is to study, to gain knowledge for their future. I believe that after a gap year, they will find it difficult to catch up with the courses provided by college.

76. Describe some good news that made you happy and explain why. That would be the moment when I got the result of my college entrance test. We were under huge pressure that day. Finally the phone finally rang and it turned out that I actually did a good job, when my mind was still all blank, my dad said something that brought me back to reality:” Son, I’m so proud of you.” Suddenly I realized that all my hard work had paid off, I didn’t let myself and anyone who loves me down, that’s the moment I knew it is a brand new start of my life, a nd that I’ll always cherish.

77. Some people believe that first-yearcollege students should live in a dorm building that homes only freshmen. Others may prefer the idea that first year students must live together with students in 2nd, 3rd or even 4th grade. Which opinion do

you agree with? Explain why. Actually that I believe freshmen should live together. For one thing, the age difference can be a big gap between first year and other students. They may share little things in common and find it hard to communicate with each other. And they don’t take the same courses, most of their activities would be hold between students from the same grade, so they really have few chances to bond with each other. And also, the experience to explore the campus with other first-years students will certainly bring them closer, they are more likely to become life time friends.

78. Do you agree or disagree that students will learn more when they have discussions, why? I’m afraid that students can’t learn more from discussions. There are several reasons, first, studies have shown that there are always free-riders in a team. They do nothing and still share the result of other people’s discussion. So the work is done by people who are actually willing to work these out and they can ’t learn anything from the free-riders. And teamwork usually means a lot of unnecessary discussions, which is a great waste of time. On the other hand if you meet with some problems while studying alone, you’ll have to go through the internet of libraries, and that is a good way to gain more knowledge.

79. Do you agree or disagree the opinion “the most important lesson can’t be learned in class”? I totally agree. First of all, classes are for everybody, you learn common things that everyone need to know in class, but they might not suit your special situation. And more importantly, the things taught in class are really limited, the teachers only give you a head start, they teach you how to learn by yourself. But the wisdom of the universe rests in our daily life. You can learn from books, from museums, from work,

from the communication with other people. Those are the thing you actually need in your real life, and there’s no way you can find them in textbooks.

80. Should the university education be free? Why? I believe that free university education would be a disaster. First, it’s obvious that free education will encourage people to go to college. But actually college is not for everyone, in fact many jobs do not require a high education degree, what they really need can only be gained from work experiences, like salesmen. And secondly, college education is very different from the education before it. Other than lectures, college students need to do lots of experiments and field study. There’s absolutely no way any university can afford them. And accordingly, it will cause the declination of education quality.

81. Favorite sport? There is no doubt that my favorite sport is swimming. It is scientific fact that swimming is the best exercise you can do. It requires both upper and lower strength, and it's all about endurance and stamina, which is essential in building up your body. When you swim for competition you are going to burn more calories in 20 minutes than you would in an hour in most other sports. Not to mention the indirect effects of swimming. Swimming in a pool rather than sitting there staring at the computer screen will certainly benefit both your physical and mental condition.

82. Recent event? Recently, Chinese government started to encourage people to do more exercise. Nowadays, people begin to realize that obesity, heart attack and diabetes are becoming more and more serious problem in the country, and studies have shown a notable decline of physical conditions among adults in China. To change this situation, local governments start to build parks beside residential area to encourage people to

do more exercise every day. And they start to provide bicycle renting service, which makes it much easier for us to go out by riding bikes. Sure there’s a long way before we can totally change the current health situation, at least we have a good start.

83. My recent event? I graduated from college about a month ago. And the night before everyone left school, me and my classmates got together to have a last meal. Our monitor suggested us to stand up in turn and talk about a little story that happened between you and everyone else. You know we are from engineer school, so most of us are boys, usually, we just don’t like to express our feelings to our friends. But that night it was all different. All those cherished moments kept pouring out of our mouth. Everyone was laughing and crying at the same time. It was the most perfect way to say goodbye to the 4 years of college.
